Most patients are admitted to the hospital on the day of surgery. You will be informed of your admission and fasting time by the hospital the day prior to the surgery. You may require some of preparation prior to the surgery and these instructions will be given to you prior to the surgery. You may be required to attend pre-admission clinic in the hospital. This usually take place before your planned surgery. This allows an anaesthetic assessment to be performed as well as any other tests such as bloods test, ECG and x-rays. Instructions regarding medications and fasting time will also be given at this time. Patients taking anticoagulants (blood thinners) such as aspirin, clopidogrel, plavix and warfarin may need to be stopped prior to surgery.
